Back That Data Up

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 11, 2026

The short version: Back That Data Up is built so that we never see your files. Backups go from your computer to destinations you control, your drives, your cloud accounts, encrypted on your device with keys only you hold. The only personal data we process is the minimum needed to sell licenses and provide support.

1. Who we are

Back That Data Up is published by Weitzman Creations ("we", "us"). Contact: [email protected].

2. Your backed-up files

Your files are backed up from your device directly to destinations you choose: local/external drives and your own cloud-storage accounts. Cloud-bound data is encrypted on your device before upload, with encryption keys that never leave your device. We operate no storage servers, and we cannot read, access, or recover your backed-up data.

3. What we do collect

  • Purchase information: when you buy a license, our merchant-of-record partner (the seller shown at checkout, e.g. Paddle) processes your payment and shares with us your email address and order details, not your full payment card data.
  • License records: your email address, license key, tier, and purchase reference, so we can deliver, recover, and support your license.
  • Activation data: when the app activates or periodically validates a license, it sends your license key and an anonymized device identifier (a one-way hash, not your device name or serial number). We use this solely to enforce per-tier device limits and deliver license status. Standard server logs (such as IP addresses) are retained briefly for security and abuse prevention.
  • Discount verification: student tiers use your academic email address; nonprofit tiers collect your organization name and tax ID (e.g. EIN) at checkout for eligibility verification.
  • Support and feedback: emails or in-app feedback you choose to send us, including the reply address you provide.
  • Newsletter signups: if you enter your email address in a signup form on our website, we store it to send you occasional product updates and backup tips. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.

4. What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent personal data, to anyone, ever.
  • We don't run ads or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We don't collect the contents, names, or metadata of your backed-up files.
  • The app contains no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.

5. Service providers

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to operate: a merchant of record for payments (e.g. Paddle), Cloudflare for website hosting and our licensing service, and Resend for transactional email (license delivery, recovery, verification) and newsletter delivery. Each receives only the data needed for its function. If you back up to a cloud destination, your relationship with that storage provider (Dropbox, Google, Apple, Microsoft) is governed by their terms, we only connect with the credentials you authorize, and your data is encrypted before it reaches them.

6. Data retention

License records are retained for as long as your license is active, plus a reasonable period for legal, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes. Support correspondence is kept as long as needed to resolve and reference your requests.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, email [email protected], we honor these requests for everyone, regardless of jurisdiction. Note that deleting your license record means we can no longer validate or recover your license.

8. Children

The Software and website are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Website

Our website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. We don't set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Cloudflare may process standard request logs (IP address, user agent) to serve and secure the site.

10. Changes

We'll update this policy as the product evolves; material changes will be reflected by a new effective date on this page.
